This my blog is about my community call “Koli” Samaj.
The Kolis have an extensive spatial distribution in the central and western regions of India. Under various names this tribe has existed in different ecological conditions. Kolis are reputed to be the best of fisherman in Bombay while in other parts of Maharashtra they are believed to be having a militant heritage. The distinct bio-cultural demarcation of Kolis from other ethnic groups inhabiting Saurashtra speaks of adaptability which has made it survive the various ethnic and cultural invasions sweeping Saurashtra from time historic. During these periods of constant domination and exploitation by higher castes the Kolis have neither lost their inherent cultural traits nor have they totally merged their identity with neighbouring cultures.

In Orissa Bhulia/Bhuliya caste has only title ie Meher.The caste profession is to weave cloth made of cotton thread.The other group who weave silk thread is called Kostha.
By browsing the net I found same profession people have different caste name as in Chhatisgargh and adjacent area they are called Kosta/Devangan.In Maharastra Kosta/Saleaar etc. So is the case in south.
It will be a great effort to amalgamate all like profession people in one platform by social net working.

I also belongs to Koli samaj of Uttrakhand. But this is my observation that there is good number of people who belongs to this caste, but they hide their caste by using other caste name of other caste. Even govt gave them resevation under sheduled caste for their upliftmentbut but some people misguided them not to use this facility by saying that they belong to higher community, God knows it. But it is true that their social condition is very weak. First of these people should be courgageious enough to say that they belongs to Koli Caste. My submission is that there are many branches in Koli caste some comes in reservation some not whatever may be reason, but those who comes under reservation and want to avail the reservation facility for upliftment of their social bacground shey should avail it and those who dont want to avail this facility that is their wish. But we should start using surname as koli in Uttrakhand to establish the identity of this community with free mind and without hesitation.

Koli caste in Uttrakhand. I have studied about Koli caste of various states in India, they are more or less are similiar in their orignin. Although once ruled, great kings As King Mandhata Singh onwards which is matter of proud. Mother of Gautama Budha, and wife belonged to Koli caste. Jhalkari Bai who helped Rani Laxmi Bai also belonged to Koli caste. Commander of Shivaji was also koli. Balmiki was also Koli. All of all great Spirutal master of this Khnand Bdrahmand Kabir Ji also belonged to Koli Caste(Weaver Community) which highlighted the true Spiritual Path. Nothing is beyond that in spirutual Path. It is matter of pround to be said and belonged to Koli community.
At present for whatever reason koli coumminity has become socilally, economically, politically weaker . That is why government has given them reseration facility for their upliftment in their social,educational, economicaland political upliftment and their should not be any hesitation to use that facility it is not a matter of shame rather it is one of the way through which one can come out of the vicious circle of poverty, education, social and economical bacwardness.
So far in Uttrakhnad Koli caste is concerned they are covered in Shilpkar Caste alongwith other caste Lohar, Tamta, Badi,Sunar, Mistri, Auji etc which are Artisan Category which is not a matter of Shame.
So far caste base is society is concerned it is man made by which these people suffered a lot. Now govt by their system of reservation giving a way to their upliftment.
Moreover, people in Uttrakhand belonging to these sheduled caste feel hesitation specially Koli Caste People. They use the surname of other caste. They should stop all this thing and make their identity by using surname as Koli or simply use their name by suffix as Singh, or Kumar etc rather using surname of other caste.
So far Reservation Facilty is concerned it is their choice whether they want to avail it or not but should not hide their identity of community of Koli Caste in Uttrakhand or other state in India or abroad.
Apne Aap ko Koli Rajput keh kar pet nahi bhrta hai our na hi bharne wala hai. Roti Beti ka saath ye log phir bhi apni KOLI Logon ke saath hi kar paaten hain. Ulta Uttrakhand main Koli jaati ke logon ko Apne Beta/Beti Ki Saadi Karne main tatha aapsi sambandh banane main badi pareshani hoti hai kyon ki kafi log apne naam ke aage Negi, Bisht, Rawat, Oswal , Gusain likhte hai jisse Apni hi Jaati Ka nuksaan hota hai our hamari ekta ko chunoti hai. Roti Beti ka saath aap logon ka anya jaati ke saath khule aam batane par sapne main bhi nahi ho sakta. Jo log koli shilpkar ke roop main sarkar se sayath lena chaten hain unke pet main kyon laat marten hai, yaa maar rahen hain. Jin longon ka pet bhara hai wo log he netagiri kar rahen hain ki hum Koli Rajput hain wese to sab ishwar ki santan hai to Jaat paat to honi hi nahi cchaiye lekin bharat main ye sambhav nahin lagta. Vaastav main practically sab jaante hain ki Koli jaati ke logon ke saath harijan jaise he vyvahar Uttrakhand main kiya jaata hai, tabhi to apne aap ko koli rajput kehene wale apne surname main Bisht, Negi, rawat likhte hain. Pehle inse puchho ki tum Koli ho to Negi, Bisht, rawat kaise ho sakte ho jo Khas, Khsya jaati Ke log hain wo ye surname likhten hain. Ye sab sadiyon se chal raha hai isliye sarkar us chhatipurti ko aarkkshan ke roop main de rahi hai our ye bhikh nahi haihamara sadiyon se dabaya haq hai isme koi saram ki baat nahi hai. Mujhe yeh dekhkar herani hoti hai koli jaati sabhi north rajyon meain KORI, KOLI jaati ke anushuchit jaati ke roop main ek hi entry me dikhai gayi hai jisme, HIMACHALPRADESH, PUNJAB, HARYANA, CHHATISHGARH, CHANDIGARH, MADHYAPRADESH yahan tak ki South India ki state list main bhi Koliyan, Koliya ke roop main anushuchit jaati ke roop main darj hai, yeh sab sarkari website main uplabdh hai.Sirf Udttrakhand, UP main shilpkar Jaati ke antargat kai Jaatioyon ko anushuchit jaati ke antargat pramanpatra issue kiye jaaten hain, jo ki bunching ke roop main hai, Shilpkar jaati ki Koi paribhasha Uttrakhand/UP ki sarkari website par nahi hai. Uttrakhand main isi karan se Koli jaati ke bahut kam log unchi prashnik vayavastha aur satta main bhagidaar hain, Agar ye sab suru se sarkari sahayata ka poora upyog karte to Koli jaati ke log bahut aage badh gaye hote our prashasnik vyavastha main accha mukaam hota. Jahan tak swabhimaan ki baat haito vo sab paisa our shiksha aane par apne aap aa jata hai lekin jiske pass na paisa hai na sihiksha hai use purvaj kuch bhi rahen ho aaj ke samay main kuch nahi hai aur sarkar aarkshan ke roop main paisa our shikhsa prapt karne ke liye he aarkhsan de rahi hai. Uttrakhand main koli jaati ke log kaafi garib our aarthik, shekshik tatha samajik roop se picchre hain isliye inhe aarkhsan ka laabh milna chaiye . Ye bechare to sharam ke maare apni jaati na batakar, Negi, Bisht, aswal, gusain, rawat keh kar apne aap ko swabhimani hone ka dhong karten hain. isliye jo apne aapko Koli (Rajput) kehta hai to apne surname na badalkar Koli (Rajput) hi likhe aur jo Koli(Shilpkar) ke roop main sarkari aarkhsan lena chhate hain unhe iska labh lene dain unhe iska labh lene dain taaki wo sab Aarthik/ shiksha Ka labh le saken.Swabhimaan apne aap aa jayega.
